Buenos Aires Legislature Declares Bibas Documentary of Social Interest

Buenos Aires, Dec 3 (NA) – The Buenos Aires City Legislature declared this Tuesday the documentary "Bibas: murdered for being Jewish" of social communication interest. The film narrates the tragedy of the Argentine-Israeli Bibas-Silberman family following the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. Deputy Graciela Ocaña, current third vice president of the Legislature and promoter of the distinction, presented the award to its creators, Alfredo Leuco, Mariana Bellini, and Gabriel Ben-Tasgal, in the Montevideo Hall. The audience included various personalities, such as Jorge Fernández Díaz, Waldo Wolf, Franco Fiumara, Jorge Sigal, Mónica Gutiérrez, Conrado Stol, Claudio Avruj, Jesús Rodríguez, Roberto Antier, members of the Israeli embassy, and Sandra Miariente, from the Bibas family, among many others who filled the hall. What is the documentary "Bibas: murdered for being Jewish" about? The film seeks to honor the memory, leave a testimony, and denounce the hatred suffered by the Bibas family after the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, in addition to promoting the construction of a school in honor of the Bibas-Silberman family. During the presentation, Deputy Ocaña highlighted the importance of the film: "The images are shocking and show how much incivility has permeated us." She also thanked the collaboration of figures such as Luis Brandoni, Cristina Pérez, and Julio María Sanguinetti, and highlighted the technical support from director Juan José Campanella. Mariana Bellini emphasized that the work "now becomes a historical document. It educates, and its main objective is to fight against denial, antisemitism, and terrorism". Finally, Gabriel Ben-Tasgal closed with a philosophical reflection: "We have to decide if we want to defend or not the values of the West... Democracy does bear its fruit". Agency NAY concluded: "May the pain we have felt become an educational and ethical contribution for future generations." Journalist Alfredo Leuco, for his part, thanked the deputy and the Legislature for addressing "a delicate topic that divides waters": "I was about to give up, but we got in tune and worked for a year with Gabriel and Mariana in favor of the truth". Leuco detailed the success of the work, revealing that "more than 100 thousand people saw it on the platforms and in person in our country, in cinemas and in Spain, Paraguay, Chile, Panama, Mexico, and Israel". By declaring this documentary of interest, this legislature expresses solidarity with the family and honors their memory". As described in the project, all its creators worked on a voluntary basis.
